Description: Colour in life: disc dark uniformly blue; arms blue or blue green with fine characteristic median lines alternating dark blue and white, which extend on the aboral side of the disc between the radial shields; arm spines glassy, reddish and often with a dark line, ventrally white overall. Arm length to 4 cm, disc diameter to 5 mm. Disc scales covered by scattered spinelets. Radial shields naked. Aboral arm plates as wide as long, distal edge convex, median light coloured longitudinal line bordered by darker areas on either side and two more lighter lines bordered by darker areas on either side. Oral arm plates broader than long, distal side convex. Six to eigth arm spines, no more than 3-4 times the length of the segment, second one from obove the longest. Habitat: crevices around hard corals and on soft corals.
Also distributed in Gilbert Islands, Tuamotus (Clark, 1954); Maldive area, Ceylon, East Indies, north Australia, Philippine, China, south Japan and South Pacific Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995), Lakshadweep (India) in Sastry (1991).
General distribution:from the Red Sea and East Africa to the western Pacific (Tortonese, 1980); W Indian Ocean (Richmond, 1998); tropical, Indo-west-central pacific Ocean, depth range 0-30 m. (Rowe & Gates, 1995); East coast of Africa to western Pacific Ocean (Sastry, 1991).
