Notes  Description: Colour in life: very varied, arms commonly green or green brown and banded by darker areas but banding may be deep brown or cream. Disc uniformly dull green to dark brown. Very fragile (Humphreys, 1981). One of the most abundant brittlestars in the region. Description: arm length up to 10 cm, disc diameter up to 20 mm. Disc scales covered by granules, becoming spiky towards the edges, higher than thick. Arms with spines as long as the arm width. Disc mottled green, arms distictly banded. Only one tentacle scale at least beyond the fifth segment.
Habitat: diverse shallow substrates; rocks, coral reef, under weed, beacon reef (Balinsky, 1957).
Also distributed in Persian Gulf (Tortonese, 1949); Persian Gulf, Maldive area and Bay of Bengal (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Lakshadweep (India) in Sastry (1991).
General distribution: Tropical Indo-Pacific in Kalk (1958); Red Sea, Persian Gulf, western Indian Ocean (uncertain records in the East) (Tortonese, 1980); WIO and Red Sea (Richmond, 1998).
Devaney (1970) and Clark & Rowe (1971) restricted the range from Persian gulf and East coast of Africa to Mascarene Island in the western Indian Ocean, doubting the further eastern records (Sastry, 1991). [details]

Type locality: Type locality: Red Sea. Also recorded from 'Coin Peros' by Bell (1909) - locality can't be traced. [details]
