Distribution: Also distributed in Seleo Island (Clark, 1954); east Indies, north australia, Philippine, China, south Japan and South Pacific Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Ecology: benthic, inshore. General distribution: tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific Ocean, depth range 0-22 m. (Rowe & Gates, 1995). [details]
Holotype: Holotype (probable) ?Zoological Museum, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen (Denmark). Type locality: Tonga, South Pacific (Rowe & Gates, 1995). [details]
Synonymy: Thought to be a synonym of Ophidiaster pusillus Muller & Troschel, 1842 by Doderlein (1926) but a valid species according to H.L. Clark (1946). [details]
