Thorecta exemplum was not recognized as a separate species by Hooper & Wiedenmayer (1994) next to its varieties prima (now Thorecta primus), secunda (junior synonym of Thorecta latus) and tertia (junior synonym of Thorecta latus). No nominal typical variety has been named as Thorecta exempluma var. exemplum as is required by the art. 46 of the ICZN. Until a proper revision has been made of Thorecta we will maintain Thorecta exemplum as distinct, although it is likely that it is a junior synonym of T. latus.
