Taxonomy Wiedenmayer (1977) followed by Van Soest (1978) assigned this to Smenospongia aurea (Hyatt, 1875).
Homonymy This combination is a junior primary homonym of Spongia fenestrata Lamarck, 1814 (now accepted as Hyattella sinuosa (Pallas, 1766). As a junior primary homonym the present combination was replaced by Smenospongia musicalis (Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864), thus removing the homonymy. [details]
