Taxonomy Topsent (1933) suggested this to be the same species as Schmidtia aulopora Schmidt, 1870, now considered a junior synonym...  
Taxonomy Topsent (1933) suggested this to be the same species as Schmidtia aulopora Schmidt, 1870, now considered a junior synonym of Neopetrosia subtriangularis (Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864). If that would be the case then Lamarck's name would have prority, but since Lamarck is uncertain about the origin it appears prudent to retain N. subtriangularis as a valid name. [details]
