Spelling Species name B. laevis misspelled as B. levis in Schulze, 1902, Wilson (1904), Topsent, 1910 and Tabachnick (2002). ICZN Art. 32.2 (Correct original spelling) forbids changing the subsequent spelling of an original name, even by the original author himself. Schulze's spelling emendation from laevis to levis is probably caused by incorrect latinization of the Greek word for 'light' (which in correct Latin is indeed 'levis'), whereas he originally named his species after the Greek word for 'left'. According to ICZN art. 32.5.1 the incorrect latinization is not an inadvertent error that needs to be corrected. Thus, laevis remains the correct name. [details]
