Ecology Massive blooms of palmelloid mucilaginous algae attributed to this species in the northern part of the North Sea have been recorded in recent years. In contrast to Phaeocystis spp. Blooms this species bloomed in the Fladen Ground area of the open northern North Sea, for from eutrophicated waters, found in May 1983. This colonial species, resembling Phaeocystis, was never seen in the North Sea before. [details]
