Chamberlin (1919:410) suggested that "Axiothea Malmgren, being preoccupied (Pascoe, 1864), gives way to Paraxiothea Webster (1879), of which Clymenella and Axiothella of Verrill are also synonyms." However, the Paraxiothea type, Paraxiothea latens Webster, 1879, is a Clymenella, and not related to Axiothea/Axiothella. [details]
