Spelling Variant incorrect spelling introduced by Audouin & Milne-Edwards (1833), three years after their original description, and frequently used since. However, Hipponoe is a sea-nymph (nereid) of ancient Greek mythology, and that spelling was the original spelling used by Audouin & Milne-Edwards (1830). There are nine nereids with 'oe' endings to their names. [details]
