Notes  Biology: Type of larval development: direct (non planktotrophic) denoted by paucispiral protoconch.  [details]

Diagnosis: Shell up to 1.6 mm high, with protoconch of 1.25 whorl and teleoconch of 2.5 to 3.25 whorls. Surface ofprotoconch covered by minute granules, distributed so as to form broad spiral bands, indistinct under the optical microscope. Sculpture on teleoconch of thin but elevate, orthocline axial ribs, minute spiral threads and very faint spiral cords restricted to the abapical area. Outer lip slightly thickened externally at a distance from the edge by a broad rim, overrun by the spiral microsculpture, smooth inside. Shell colour entirely white. [details]

Distribution: Gorringe and Josephine seamounts, endemic, rare in 265-1040 m.
This species constitutes with Alvania microstriata Hoenselaar and Goud, 1998 and A. seinensis Gofas, 2007 a group which seems restricted to the Lusitanian seamounts and Madeira, and does not resemble closely any of the European mainland species. The few specimens from Josephine have more ribs than those from Gorringe. [details]
