Biology: Type of larval development: long planktotrophic (teleplanic), inferred from multispiral protoconch. [details]
Diagnosis: Shell rather solid, up to 30 mm high, spindle-shaped. Protoconch with 3-4 tall, smooth whorls. Teleoconch of 6-7 whorls with a sculpture of narrow, flattened spiral cords, alternating stronger and weaker, and with faint axial folds. There are several narrow and elevated varixes, placed about every 2/3 of a whorl, which are overrun by the spiral sculpture. Aperture rather small, oval in shape; the outer lip externally bordered by the last varix, thickened inside and provided with 7-8 denticles, the strongest one on the adapical side. Parietal and columellar areas forming a rather very narrow callus, bearing small tubercles nearly equivalent to the denticles of the outer lip. Siphonal canal rather long and narrow, nearly closed except for a narrow slit. Periostracum polished, appressed, not hairy. Colour yellowish white or tinged with brown, inside of aperture white. [details]
Distribution: Western Atlantic, from Florida to Barbados, rare in 46-220 m. La Palma and Tenerife, Canary Is., rare in 100-150 m; Seine seamount, rare at 190 m. [details]
