The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature ruled under Plenary Powers that Salpa maxima is the type species of Salpa Forskål and Salpa democratica is the type species of Thalia (see: Melville, 1969 in Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature 26 (3): 136-138). [details]
