Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorEtymology The generic name Spermosyllis refers to the small size of the median antenna (the single one present), being reduced to the dimensions of a granule ("L'antenne impaire, seule présente, est elle-même réduite à un simple granule qui a donné lieu au nom du genre."; Claparède, 1864: 553). From the Latin sperm, meaning 'seed' or 'germ', and Syllis, the type genus of the family.  [details]
