Description Benthodytes is characterized by soft retractile tentacles, circum-oral or post-oral papillae and the absence of an unpaired dorsal appendage. It includes eight species, of which B. sanguinolenta, B. lingua, B. plana and B. typica have hitherto been recorded from southern Africa. The R.V. Afriana II material includes only B. lingua, two specimens herein referred to B. valdiviae, and a single incomplete specimen perhaps representing B. typica[details]
