Publication
Nine species of Pseudochromidae are known in the red sea: Two described by Riippell (1835) one by Klausewitz (1968) and six by Lubbrak (1975). Seven belong to genus Pserdochromis Riippell and two should be placed in genus chlidichthys smith. We hereby describe a new species only known in the Gulf of Agaba and the central mediteranean sea which we tentatively place in the genus Pseudoplesiops Bleeker. Lubbock (1977) placed in synonym wimisichthys smith with chlidichthys and we consider that chlidichthys is a recent synonym of Pseudoplesinps which is discussed in details in the revision of Pseudoplesiipinae that the first author prepared. The ten specis of Pseudochrindes, the three Pesudoplesiops and six of the seven Pseudochronus are only known in the Red Sea region. If this restriction in pantitrin is real which is probable the endenusim is 90%.
