The word Tubificidarum is a subject label used as a heading, possibly derived by a use as a heading in Michaelsen (1900: 55) as “Genera dubia et species dubiae Tubificidarum” (Dubious genera and dubious species of Tubificidae). In his original 1958 paper Hrabe describes 'Tubificidarum' from Skadar lake without naming a genus or species. In 1966 he makes a short comment on different 'Tubificidarum' species from the Black Sea, but later places that entity to a genus and species as Adelodriloides borceai Hrabe 1973. However, Karaman (1973), who studied amphipods, collected oligochaetes from Skadar lake and mistakenly thought that the original Tubificidarum label had been intended by Hrabe as a genus name. This was an inexplicable and serious error. Karaman (1973) thus becomes the first author of 'Tubificidarum' converted into a genus name (q.v.), and he named T. hrabei as the type species.
