Ecology The new species inhabits shallow and deep water of Lake Bita and its inflowing stream. The water temperature of the lake is 15.1°C in September, and the seasonal mean temperature was 12.2°C in 2009. The density of G. bitaensis is 111.5 ind. m−3 in open water. It mainly preys on another small crustacean, Neutrodiaptomus mariadvigae mariadvigae (Brehm, 1921) and is preyed upon by one fish, Ptychobarbus chungtienensis Tsao, 1964, in the lake. Together they form a simple consumer food chain of the plateau’s lake. [details]
Etymology The species name is derived from the name of the type locality, Lake Bita. It is an adjective, agreeing in gender with the (masculine) generic name. [details]
