Remark According to Larsen & Krapp-Schickel (2007) all species in the genus are reported from sunken wood (Pirlot, 1934: 229; J.L. Barnard, 1961: 109; Andres, 1977: 58), and J.L. Barnard (1961) furthermore found wood particles in the intestine of B. stephenseni. This could mean that this species-group utilizes the wood particles (cellulose) for nutrition which is rather unusual. Alternatively they could be using the bacterial film around the particle as many detritus eaters do but this seems unlikely.
Barnard & Barnard (1983) maintained a Bathyceradocus group not recognized by Krapp-Schickel (2008) which contained Bathyceradocus Pirlot, 1934 and Metaceradocoides Birstein & Vinogradov, 1960. Lowry (this catalogue) suggested that Paraceradocus Stebbing,1899 might also belong in this group. [details]
