Remark There appears to be little difference between Protorchestia Bousfield, 1982 and Microchestia Bousfield, 1984. The only significant difference I (JKL) can find between Microrchestia and Protorchestia is slightly sexually dimorphic pereopods 6 and 7 in Microrchestia. Richardson (1996) comments on the slight differences between the Tasmanian species of Eorchestia and Protorchestia. For him the main difference was the 5-dentate left lacinia mobilis of Protorchestia. In the P. nitida of Bousfield (1982) there is at least one robust seta on the margin of the uropod 3 ramus. These are all very small differences which make it difficult at times to separate the Microrchestia and Protorchestia. [details]
