Distribution South Africa: Table Bay, Cape of Good Hope. [details]
Editor's comment The description and drawings of Syllis fusicornis provided by Schmarda (1861: 71), together with the small size of the single studied specimen (6 mm long, 1.3 mm wide, 31 segments) suggest that the species is a juvenile Eunicida (Eunicidae or Onuphidae). The presence of only three prostomial appendages, the antennae, while the palps are still not developed, is characteristic of the younger stages of different genera of both families. [details]
Etymology The specific epithet fusicornis is composed by the words fusi, the genitive of the Latin noun fusus and meaning 'spindle', and the Latin adjective cornis, meaning 'horned', and refers to the three spindle shaped antennae present in the species. [details]
