Synonymy Burreson & Passarelli (2015) place Stibarobdella as a synonym of Pontobdella, stating that the three versus four annulations difference is not used for generic separation in other leeches, and that Stibarobdella spp. and Pontobdella muricata L. form a monophyletic group in molecular phylogenetic analyses [details]
