Taxonomy The name Amphiura studeri was chosen by Lyman (1882) as a replacement name for A. antarctica Studer, 1876, because Lyman synonymized Amphipholis with Amphiura and thus Amphipholis antarctica (Ljungman, 1867) became a senior homonym. It appears in the index to H.L. Clark (1915) as species no. 455. On page 223, species 455 is named Amphiura antarctica Studer, 1876, whithout mention of the name A. studeri. Since Ljungman's species has been transferred back to Ophiophragmus and synonymized with O. chilensis, it seems that A. studeri has reverted to A. antarctica. [details]
