Distribution Malaysia [details]
Original description This variety differs from the typical form only in the shape of the hairs on the primary spines, these being bushshaped and rather coarse, while in the typical form they are very small and simple. Other constant characters distinguishing it from the typical form do not seem to exist - and also specimens, showing the hairs rather intermediate, may occur. As, moreover, both forms occur together, from Japan to the Kei-Islands, it will be out of the question to regard this form with the coarser hairs as more than a variety - it might perhaps rather be more appropriate to designate it only as a forma. Taxonomic remark Originally proposed as an infrasubspecific taxon (variety), but is to be treated as a subspecies according to the Code (ICZN 1999 Art. 45.6.4.). [details]
