Etymology Not stated by the author. The specific epithet brachiata is a Latin adjective meaning 'branched' or 'having branches', and can be used in the sense 'having branches like arms'. It seems to refer to the conspicuous notopodial chaetigers, described as being obvious through the whole body ("Pinnae fasciculos setarum capillarium gerentes a segmento secundo per totum corpus obviae"), but it could also refer to the presence of three pairs of branchiae, which however are described as being simple, not branched ("branchiae simplices subulatae in segmento primo setigero utrinque 4 seriem transversam formantes, in secundo et tertio utrinque 2"). [details]
